Wheels in motion: A date is set!

Amidst the excitement of working a ski season, there hasn’t been too much chatter on here about my cycle recently. But, that’s not to say I haven’t still been giving it some thought, and I’m pleased to bring you some exciting news…

The cycling adventure, which has so far been a fairly vague and distant notion beginning at some point in 2015, suddenly seems much closer, as I have set a start date; Sunday 24th May 2015.

I can’t wait to share this journey with all of you through this blog, and various social media (Psst… Follow me on Twitter and Facebook!), and would love it if you would join me right from the start, to wave me off for the start of the cycle (and possibly take part in a massive group cycle of the 24 miles to Dover – details to follow). The long road east which stretches over many horizons, dances through distant lands, and extends all the way to Australia begins in the small, unassuming town of Herne Bay, sitting on the south-eastern English coastline. The first pedal stroke of many will be at 10am on the promenade – just save the date, and follow the blog for now, I’ll be sure keep you updated with the rest.

Over time, there’s been different stages of commitment. First, just telling myself I’d do it, followed by telling everyone else, and recently spending a chunk of money on a bike. Setting a date marks a further stage of commitment, and sharing that publicly even moreso. I’m not afraid to admit, that I’m terrified – terrified of what exactly I’m not sure – just the unknown, I figure. I’m happy to have a date, giving me a firm time to aim to have everything ready for, and ensuring I don’t fall into the temptation of continually imposing minor delays. On the whole, the thought of relinquishing control and stepping firmly outside my comfort zone in new ways, all in the glorious pursuit of this dream is something I’m both eager, and daunted about beginning.

Either way the countdown has begun; in 115 days (less than 4 months) the adventure will have begun.

Will you be coming along for the ride?
