About

Josiah Skeats with Marco Polo sheep to his head while sitting on touring bike in Tajikistan

I'm Josiah, an adventurer and a storyteller, who is passionate about the transformative power of words, photos and travel to change the world around us. I travel slowly and under my own steam (or occasionally on the wind's breath), always following the pull of my curiosity.

I love slow adventures for the way they challenge me physically and mentally, and force a deeper connection with the landscapes and people found there. In pursuit of this, I have cycled 40,000 kilometres around the world, sailed 10,000 kilometres across an ocean, spent a year hiking in Europe and five months during the coronavirus pandemic stuck on a 1-kilometre Arctic Island with a fisherman, a trumpet-player and an artist (does this sound like the start of a bad joke?).

Wherever I go, my travels are people-focussed and I ask, 'How would my life look if I lived here?'. After attempting to answer this question in 58 countries, I now see myself as a jigsaw puzzle built with pieces from every culture, conversation and adventure enjoyed along the way.

Through writing, speaking and photography, I capture and celebrate our unique world and diverse humanity, and offer advice on making your adventures possible so you can experience it first-hand.
